Energy management in Converter-Interfaced Renewable Energy Sources through ultracapacitors for provision of ancillary services

The ever-growing penetration of Converter-Interfaced Renewable Energy Sources (CI-RES) and the gradual decommission synchronous generators (SGs) are posing several challenges to guarantee stability robustness electric power system. A possible solution overcome foreseen problems is enable provision ancillary services (AS) by advanced CI-RES emulating SG performance. However, given fact that most operate at maximum point, it will be required rely on energy storage systems (ESS) deal with active related ASs. ESS integration can done in a straightforward manner within DC bus means DC/DC converter. It required, however, an adequate management properly control voltage, delivered grid primary source. This major challenge which must solved unlock AS CI-RES. With this regard, main contribution paper design system simultaneously regulate voltage using UC also maintain their safety limits while provided. strategy validated experimentally prototype results reveal reliable stable operation.
